Preventing AI Image Abuse
A whole-school safeguarding package to help schools understand, prevent and respond to AI image abuse involving children and young people.
AI image abuse is no longer a future concern. Ordinary images of children and young people can now be copied, manipulated, sexualised or used for blackmail with tools that are increasingly easy to access.
This course package, created by Traci Gregory and Alan Mackenzie with a combined experience of almost 40 years, includes resources for staff, parents and pupils to help schools understand the risk, strengthen image privacy practice, support pupils and parents, and respond appropriately if an incident occurs.
AI has changed image risk
Photos can now be manipulated quickly and convincingly.
Privacy matters more than ever
Images may reveal identity, location, friendships and more.
Consent needs to be understood
Everyone needs clear messages about taking/sharing images.
Schools need a response plan
If an image is misused, staff need to know what to do.
This isn't about panic. It's about preparedness.
AI image abuse is a serious safeguarding issue, but schools do not need alarmist messages. They need clear understanding, practical guidance and age-appropriate resources that help the whole school community respond with confidence.
What's included in the course package?
- An engaging, jargon-free video split into two parts:
- Part 1: For all school staff explaining AI image abuse, privacy risks, image manipulation, safeguarding concerns and what staff should do if an incident occurs. Suitable for whole-staff safeguarding updates, DSL briefings and online safety training.
- Part 2: Practical guidance for senior leaders, governors and trustees on safer image use, consent, policy, audits, staff training and incident response.
A RACI chart and review checklist provided in MS Word format so that you can change/amend as you require. A RACI chart is an easy way to assign roles and tasks:
- R – Responsible: who does the work?
- A – Accountable: who is the single senior owner?
- C – Consulted: who gives input/advice?
- I – Informed: Who needs to be kept updated?
A short video for parents along with information sheets for primary and secondary-aged children, explaining how photos can reveal personal information, how AI changes the risk, and how families can talk about consent and sharing.
Three short assembly-style videos, one suitable for KS2 pupils, one for KS3 and one for KS4/5. Each video includes age-appropriate messages with a focus on privacy, asking permission, consent and more.
Plus 9 posters available for download in A3 and A4 sizes. Three are for Primary and six for Secondary/College age.
