Free lesson plans from ICO – protecting personal privacy

Within e-safety, the protection of your personal data and your privacy is a significant concern, this is particularly the case with young people who may share information on social networks without understanding the potential consequences.

In a recent survey, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) found that:

  • 60% haven’t read the site’s privacy policy, which explains how their personal information will be used;
  • 32% don’t know what a privacy policy is; and
  • 23% do not know where to find it.

To help schools with this difficult area, the ICO, in conjunction with teachers, has developed some lesson plans for both primary and secondary schools that specifically target areas of the National Curriculum.

The lesson plans look really good and should be a great resource for the classroom.
