eCadets : peer-led e-Safety

Starting off in Wales and now used by schools internationally, the eCadet scheme is an initiative that has won awards with good reason; if you are looking for pupil-led e-safety education it is the best scheme for pupils to empower other pupils and adults.

Award-Winning

The scheme has been recognised for best practice, winning both the Nominet and Internet Service Providers Association awards for ‘Making the Internet a Safer Place.’

The eCadet schemes:

    • Mini eCadets for nursery to Year 2
    • eCadets for Years 3 to 6
    • Senior eCadets for Years 7 to 12

eCadets is the only structured, pupil-led e-safety empowerment scheme for children aged 3-18.  With learning at its core, it has been built by award-winning teachers and police officers to promote and empower positive behaviour change.

Case Study

The impact of the eCadet scheme has been recognised during many Ofsted inspections.  Miss Williams is a Key Stage 2 teacher and here’s what she has to say about the implementation and the impact:

Implementation:
“The eCadet scheme was simple to implement into school life and inspired our pupils from the moment they logged into the eCadet zone on the website! A team of four eCadets were originally chosen to lead the scheme.

As the eCadet Coordinator, it quickly became apparent the scheme was much more powerful than I could of ever expected. The children were truly empowered to lead the scheme and because of this it took minimal time and effort to set up and implement for other staff and myself.”

Impact:

“Our eCadet team are now a core group who promote pupil voice and eSafety to pupils, staff, parents, governors, local community and even pupils and staff from other schools in the UK and beyond. They form an important part of our School Development Plan each year and the scheme supports us in taking eSafety from strength to strength and equips our school community for life as 21st century digital citizens. Each eCadet challenge offers eSafety lesson plans and resources to equip our teachers with a scheme of work that can be delivered throughout each school year.”
